Joanna Chataway is Head of the Department of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy (STEaPP) in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at University College London (UCL). Previously, she was Deputy Director and Professor of Science and Technology Policy at SPRU, University of Sussex. She also directed the Innovation, Health, and Science (IHS) research group at RAND Europe and was previously Professor of Biotechnology and Development and Co-Director of the ESRC INNOGEN Research Centre at the Open University. She is a leader in the field of science and innovation policy and at STEaPP is working with colleagues to spearhead new integrated approaches to researching and teaching science policy and science advice. She is interested in successfully navigating the tensions between demands and requirements of policy research, science advice, and academic work.
